Practical down to earth answers to future challenges on improving the sustainability of water utilisation will be delivered at an open day being held in Shropshire on July 10.

'Towards water sustainability for field vegetable crops' will take place at Chadwell Park Farm, Great Chatwell, Near Newport TF10 9BN by kind permission of PDM UK Ltd from 10 am – 3.00 pm.

This free event has been organised by EFFP whose lead advisor Liz Bowles will highlight key findings from her recent Heart of Horticulture report into the fresh produce sector in the West Midlands.

Lesley Worby of the Environment Agency will give a global perspective on water and future availability for agriculture in the UK and other experts will cover the precision use of water in the UK, how to maximise the potential of available water for irrigation and explain how water abstraction groups operate.

A farm walk after lunch will enable visitors to examine PDM's strategy for water utilisation on their salad and baby leaf enterprises. This event supported by the NFU, EFFP, The Environment Agency and Defra. For details contact EFFP on 01884 32983 email: lbowles@effp.com
