Shrewsbury lawyer's key role
A county lawyer has been appointed to head a national solicitors' body which represents members of the armed forces.
Trevor Wheatley, who is a consultant lawyer with Wace Morgan Solicitors in Shrewsbury, has taken up the role of chairman of Forces Law.
He said: "Forces Law offers a wide range of services to meet the legal needs of serving personnel and their families, as well as retired service men and women.
"I am honoured to be appointed as chairman in this the 15th anniversary of Forces Law. It is a very worthwhile organisation which provides valuable help to people serving in our armed forces through a nationwide network of lawyers."
Wace Morgan, which has three offices in Shrewsbury and one in Newtown, holds regular clinics at RAF Shawbury and Clive Barracks Tern Hill and the network offers a 24-hour helpline for service men and women.
In addition it has represented members of the armed forces based in Germany and Cyprus and on active service in Afghanistan.
"The general issues facing service people tend to be the same as other clients, although the stresses and disciplines they deal with are increased and we see more personal injury and conditions of service cases. We find that having a specialist knowledge of life in the forces is a huge advantage," Mr Wheatley added.
