Record month as Shropshire firm enjoys £10.5m sales

The Cleobury Mortimer-based Amodil Group, which provides stainless steel long products such as bars, tubes and wire for use in a variety of industries, achieved record sales of £10.25 million this May.

In the last two years, the company has achieved turnover of approximately £60 million a year, meaning an average month's income amounts to £5 million.

However, the company more than doubled that tally with its May totals, which came on the back of a run of orders from major customers.

Managing director Paul Slingsby said: "From an industrial point of view a lot of our customers are doing very well, and are doing so consistently year-on-year.

"In this case, we happen to have had a good months where the larger contracts that are usually spread over a longer period have come at once."

Mr Slingsby added: "There's a lot of business out there. The automotive industry with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan, the power generation industry - we have found them very buoyant - and there is a lot of work in the sea in oil and gas.

"Overall I think we will probably hit the same levels as last year, but we could have taken more if we had matched market prices that we didn't want to do."

The Group, comprising of Amodil Supplies Ltd and Olarra UK Ltd, specialises in the supply of stainless steel, duplex, super duplex and special grade long products, to customers in the oil and gas, power generation, automobile and general engineering.

Established in 1976, the group is still privately owned and employs 45 people in south Shropshire.

Over 4,000 tonnes of Stainless Steel is held in the UK and as agents for leading European mills. The group supplies billets, bars, seamless pipe and tube, fittings, cold heading wire, large wire and welding wire, both from stock and manufactured to exact customer requirements.
