Canadian manufacturer ready for Shropshire move
Work has begun on a new building project that will see Canadian manufacturer Axyz base its new UK headquarters in Shropshire later this year.
The company, which makes CNC routers, is to move to the new site at T54 in Telford, and building work is now underway on the substantial building.
Shropshire developer Morris Property is leading the build, which will see on a plot of 0.4 hectares and which will comprise a warehouse of 54,7890 sq ft, 3,606sq ft of offices, and a loading dock.
Mark Sweeney, managing director of Axyz International, said: "We're thrilled with this new development taking place and can't wait to set up home in the heart of the Midlands.
"This site is ideal to help us stay connected to our customers in the UK and throughout Europe. We wanted a building designed to meet our current needs but would also serve us well in the future and set us apart."
The start of works was celebrated with a site visit from a Canadian delegation including Alf Zeuner, president of Axyz International and Derek Jackson, VP Manufacturing Manager of Axyz International, and was marked with a traditional sod cutting ceremony with Morris Property and agents, Silk Sharples and Jennings.
Colin Silk agent from Silk, Sharples and Jennings, the Shrewsbury-based chartered surveyors said: "We have worked with Morris Property on a number of other high profile construction projects and we felt that they provided the most competitive tender and offered a value engineered approach to the contract."
Morris Property will be employing a number of professional partners to work alongside the construction team on the contract, including structural engineers, architects and ecologists to assist in taking the design forward now that site preparation works have commenced.
The contract period is six months with anticipated completion in late June 2015.
The Canadian firm currently has its UK headquarters at Albrighton near Wolverhampton, where it moved in 1998.
Axyz will eventually share Plot One on the major development site in eastern Telford with oil mist extraction unit manufacturer Filtermist.
