Marston's has applied to build on the land next to the Poachers pub and restaurant in Chirk Bank, which it also owns. If successful the development would create up to 10 jobs.

It would be the third hotel within a mile stretch and would face competition from the Lord Moreton and Lion Quays.

The plans are part of Marston's nationwide development programme to provide overnight accommodation on selected sites across its estate.

It includes 30 extra car parking spaces and alterations to the existing beer garden and play area.

Breakfast would be served for hotel guests in the Poachers before the restaurant opens to the public at noon.

A decision on the proposal is expected in September.
