Shoppers will be able to get a look around the £12 million store, in the Charles Darwin Shopping Centre at 9am following a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The 30,600sq ft shop has taken the place of nine units in the centre including Currys, TK Maxx and Dorothy Perkins. More than 140 jobs were created within the store.

Initially the company said the shop would open in the autumn but work progressed ahead of schedule and has been brought forward by two months.

The store will be the first time Primark has a presence in the town. The only other Primark in Shropshire is in Telford.

There will be men's, women's and children's departments as well as a shoe department and those dedicated to accessories, lingerie, beauty and homewares.

Simon Gibbs, director of sales, UK, Primark, said: “We are delighted to be opening a new store in Shrewsbury on Thursday. This is an important opening for Primark and we look forward to expanding our footprint and bringing the Primark brand to more customers.”

Primark is known for stocking huge amounts of fashion-forward clothing at low prices.

The creation of the new store has also seen an overhaul of the shopping centre. Its public areas, including floors, ceilings and lighting have all been upgraded.
