Shrewsbury-based Saxonby Group back to work after restructuring
A Shrewsbury-based construction group is back at work, weeks after jobs were lost when part of it went into administration.
Saxonby says it has restructured and is now starting to deliver contracts again.
It was thrown into crisis in February when 41 jobs were lost and Saxonby (Affordable Housing) Limited was placed into administration.
The company had been trading since 2008 and formed part of the Saxonby group of companies.
Work at all of the company's live construction sites had been paused while administrators explored the options for the company.
But a newly restructured Saxonby (Group) says it is now building new open market and social housing developments in Derbyshire and Gloucestershire.
The company currently employs 33 people and is based at Sweetlake Business Village. It says following the period of restructuring and consolidation, it is now looking to grow the business.
Saxonby (Affordable Housing) Limited is no longer part of Saxonby (Group). Saxonby Groundworks continues as a groundwork contractor in the region, while Saxonby Plant & Haulage continues to underpin the group’s activities as well as offering 'muck-away' services, or the removal of materials, to the public.
James Wood, co-founder and group managing director at Saxonby (Group) Ltd, said: “This has been a particularly tough period for the construction industry.
"Certain parts of the Saxonby Group were affected by the collapse of larger businesses in the sector and the downturn in output due to the adverse winter weather.
"However, in what are challenging economic times, the group is now re-positioned to grow and thrive. Wherever possible, we will look to employ local suppliers and sub-contractors for work undertaken in the county and uphold our support for community projects.”
