Students invited to ‘Discover Digital’ at flagship tech industry event

Students from across Telford are being invited to a digital technology event.

Pupils will have the chance to get to grips with the latest in cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence, drones and cyber security.

Leaders from businesses such as Capgemini, BT, Immersive AV and the University of Wolverhampton will put on stands showcasing the latest tech throughout the day, as well as a video talk with former astronaut, Andy Allen.

Hosted by Telford &Wrekin Council as part of the Telford 50 celebrations, the event on June 28 will be attended by 1,000 school students aged 10 to 16 from schools across the borough.

Councillor Lee Carter, from Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "Discover Digital is an integral part of our ongoing Telford 50 celebrations and promises to be a fantastic opportunity for the children who attend.

"We’re thrilled so many local businesses are coming out to support the event and dedicating resources to the future faces of technology."

Students will also be able to put their racing skills to the test in a full-motion F1 simulator, as well as using facial recognition Scalextric kit and meeting Titan the robot.

Admissions to attend the event should be sent to discoverdigital@telford.gov.uk quoting the number of student tickets needed. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
