Shropshire cheesemaker is cream of the crop with Supreme Champion award
You would have to be crackers not to agree – but a cheesemaker from Whitchurch is now cream of the crop after one of his cheeses beat more than 5,000 other entries to be named best in the country.
Belton Farm is celebrating once again after being crowned Supreme Champion at this year’s International Cheese Awards held in Nantwich, Cheshire. And their traditionally-made Cheshire cheese took the top slot.
The dairy industry was out in force on Tuesday to take part in the annual celebration of the best cheesemakers and dairy producers from across the world. Around 300 experts and professionals tested a total of 5,183 entries over a period of five hours.
Belton pride themselves on their cheese-making heritage and provenance, using local milk and the skill and expertise of their team of cheesemakers.
The Belton team believe the best quality cheese demands the best quality milk. This is achieved by sourcing all of their milk from local farmers, all within a 25-mile radius of the dairy, and who share the same care and attention for both their land and their animals.
Justin Beckett, managing director of Belton Farm, said of the win: “After the judges tasted over 5,000 cheese entries, being awarded the Supreme Champion is testament to our fantastic team of cheesemakers, who have more than 100 years of experience between them.

“Being awarded the Supreme Champion for our traditionally-made coloured Cheshire cheese reflects our passion for producing great tasting cheese, and that here in Great Britain we have some of the very best cheese made anywhere in the world.”
