Costa Coffee in Bridgnorth was closed last Friday because tiles came off the roof in high winds.

Now the chain says the store, in Cartway, will not open until the landlord carries out work.

Isabella Highett, Costa spokeswoman, said: "I’ve spoken with the local team and I'm afraid I don’t have any concrete information on reopening.

"However, we understand that the landlord has arranged for some work to take place on the building.

Bridgnorth's Costa Coffee remains shut until further notice

"As soon as that is complete we will have a clearer idea of the opening date and work required within Costa Coffee itself."

Residents say they are worried about the safety of the building.

A spokesman from Shropshire Council's building control team added: "If a structure is found to be dangerous, then we would definitely investigate further.

"Ian Kilby, head of planning at Shropshire Council, is fully aware of the problem, and there will be a meeting held next week to discuss what is to be done."
