Royal Mail recruiting 500 workers for Christmas jobs in Wolverhampton
Almost 500 temporary jobs are being created by Royal Mail in Wolverhampton to make sure Christmas cards and gifts are delivered on time.
A similar number of jobs are being created in Birmingham as the company looks to recruit 23,000 temporary staff.
In Wolverhampton, 460 new recruits will start work with staff urgently needed to process the festive post.
They will work at the North West Midlands Mail Centre and be asked to help process more than a million items during each shift. Their jobs will include working in a large warehouse where they will unload mail from vans, move large volumes of mail around in trolleys, sort letters manually and operate machineary.
Royal Mail is seeking seasonal workers to help sort the traditional Christmas post and the increasing amount of online shopping parcels.
Around 23,000 seasonal roles are available across the UK in Royal Mail and Parcelforce worldwide, primarily to help sort the additional Christmas volumes of parcels, cards and letters.
Positions are available from late October through until early January 2019.
Royal Mail has been recruiting festive temporary workers since the Second World War.
Over 13,300 people are needed to work in mail centres, distribution centres and data centres across England.
There are also around 1,100 posts in Scotland, 470 jobs in Wales and another 445 roles in Northern Ireland.
