Lewis secures carpentry apprenticeship through Ladder for Shropshire
Lewis Trow has become the latest new apprentice to secure an opportunity with the support of the Ladder for Shropshire.
Lewis has secured the carpentry apprenticeship with Telford-based Custom Garden Rooms.
The firm was introduced to Amanda Carpenter, the project lead for the Ladder for Shropshire, by Mary-Anne Clayton from mechanical and electrical services contractors Dodd Group.
Dodd Group is a recent Ladder ambassador which has been supportive in promoting apprenticeships within its own supply chain and contacts. This has lead to Custom Garden Rooms contacting Amanda to discuss the options of a carpentry apprenticeship.
Mary-Anne, Dodd Group HR manager, said: “When the Ladder for Shropshire was looking for ambassadors to help promote apprenticeships, we were delighted to support the local initiative.
“We feel it is important that businesses continue to invest in apprentices to fill the skills gap and give the young people the chance to develop sustainable careers.”
Andy Charman, Custom Garden Rooms director, said: ”We are over the moon to welcome our new apprentice carpenter Lewis Trow to the team as he starts the path to a new career under our supervision.”
Lewis said: “When I first left school I secured a role in construction but unfortunately Covid hit and they were unable to keep me on, so I found myself seeking employment.
"I was finding it difficult as the opportunities didn’t seem to be out there until I was made aware of the carpentry apprenticeship with Custom Garden Rooms through the Ladder for Shropshire.
"It’s been a life changer, I am so happy with the opportunity and I can’t thank everyone at Custom Garden Rooms and Amanda enough for helping me secure this position.
“I would encourage anyone to look at apprenticeships.”
