Welshpool branch of Edinburgh Woollen Mill reopens for business
The boss of a branch of Edinburgh Woollen Mill that was saved when the company was taken over said many were not aware it had reopened.
The store in Severn Road, Welshpool, reopened on April 12 after the business was bought out of administration by Purepay Retail Limited.
It welcomed back customers with a number of Covid-secure measures in place and has been serving takeaways from its cafe.
Jane Millward, the newly-appointed manager, said while trade had been “steadily improving by the day”, many were not aware the shop had reopened.
“There have been quite a few store closures as Edinburgh Woollen Mill looked to downsize, so it’s now really about getting the word out there that we’re open and trading,” she said.
“While the company was in administration there were a lot of rumours going around that we wouldn’t be reopening here so it’s great to be able to get the positive news out that we are.”
Jane previously worked at the company’s Oswestry store at The Cross, which closed earlier this year. “In Welshpool we unfortunately have lost some staff as the company has had to cut back, but the fact we’re open is fantastic news for the people of Welshpool and the staff that have stayed on.”
With Wales easing its Covid restrictions, the store’s cafe will have outdoor seating available.
“It’s an ever-changing situation but it’ll be nice as a lot of people stop on the way to wherever they’re going to get a snack and take a look around,” Jane said.
“I’d say since reopening it’s been a cautious start back. People are still cautious about coming out and mixing with other people.
"We’ve got a one-way system in place and we’re all wearing masks and PPE. Trade is steadily improving by the day.”
