Workshop will help keep Shropshire’s business people on the move
A new course being run by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce is the perfect way to kick-start the new year - helping you to increase productivity, perform at your best and feel strong and focus without leaving your desk.
The ‘Make Sitting Count’ workshop on January 28 is being hosted by Rachel Kili, who runs a physiotherapy company in Habberley, near Shrewsbury.
It will take place at the Chamber’s Trevithick House office on Stafford Park, in Telford, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and is open to Chamber members and non-members.
Rachel said: “Countering the ill effects of sitting all day is not just about exercising or moving more – it’s about understanding and applying how we’ve evolved to thrive, the biomechanics and physiology of alignment and movement, to power and protect our body and brain, while we sit.
“I specialise in physiotherapy through movement. My unique approach Simply Move!, founded in human evolution, gives you the tools to take care of your bones, joints, and muscles as you go about your day.”
Rachel, who delivered an interactive session at a Chamber networking event in Bridgnorth last month, said the aim of her Make Sitting Count course is to help staff resolve aches and pains, muscle stiffness and sluggishness while at their desks.
“Stiffness and pain in your back, knee, shoulders or anywhere else is more than just a ‘pain in the neck’. Seeking treatment can be a hassle and costly – both in terms of finance and time.
“I’ll show you how your whole body works as one entity, how one problem area directly impacts your entire body – for example, neck stiffness will not resolve with neck exercises if the cause is actually a stiff back.”
Kelly Riedel – the Chamber’s events and training manager – said: “We’re really looking forward to Rachel’s session, and we’re sure her years of expertise will help our delegates understand and appreciate just how much their physical health impacts their work life.”
She said there had already been a great deal of interest in the course which would be practical and interactive, covering how to move with ease and confidence and offload tension and strain when sitting at your desk.
“Rachel’s aim is to help you harness peak performance and productivity when the effects of living in an older body, going through the Menopause or sitting all day for hours on end, could lead to dramatic issues.
“This is sure to be a popular session, so any businesses who would like to attend should register their interest in advance.”
