The Wellington business with a green commitment is going from strength to strength
A business in Wellington is 'going from strength to strength' as its owner prepares for the challenges of 2025.
Last year was a big one for Jo Foster, who bought The Green Cove, an award-winning minimal waste eco-friendly refill shop in Wellington Market.
Jo had been working there since it opened in 2021 but took over as the new owner in October.
“The aim of the business is to reduce single use plastic, help reduce impact on the environment and people save a bit of money by allowing them to buy just what they need.," Jo said.
"This also reduces food waste and cuts the amount of waste going into landfill.
"Customers can either bring in their own containers to refill or they can use our paper bags.
"I also offer a drop-off service where customers can leave their list and empties with us and then collect them later."
The business stocks herbs, spices, seeds, sugar, nuts, coffee beans, loose tea, dried fruit, pulses, lentils, rice, pasta, flour and much more, including a gluten free range.
"We will sell as little as people want - even a teaspoon of herbs or spices for a recipe!" Jo said.
“We also sell eco-friendly household goods such as washing up liquid, laundry liquid, fabric softener and personal hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioners, body wash and handwash."
“The business is going from strength to strength," Jo said. "It's been really busy since I took over and I have signed up to a Good2Great initiative to help me grow even further next year."
Jo believes that Wellington as a whole is starting to thrive down to the hard work of those involved.
"We have Love Wellington which is great for the community as a whole," said jo. "A lot of effort is put into pushing Wellington town and the market.”
