Police were today hunting arsonists who attacked a car in Wellington.

Emergency service were alerted by a member of the public to the fire, which broke out at about 2.15am today on the car park near Saville Close.

The blaze cause 'significant' damage to the Vauxhall Insignia.

Police said something was thrown through the window of the car and that is believed to have started the fire.

Police officers and firefighters were called to the scene and the blaze was tackled before it could spread to any other vehicles.

A police spokesman said: "It appears this fire was started deliberately as a rear window on the vehicle had been smashed.

"Investigating officers believe that something was thrown through this window and that this was what caused the fire.
