But Bassom, of Dodington, Whitchurch, found they were locked when he boarded the Arriva Trains Wales service at Whitchurch on August 12, Shrewsbury Magistrates Court.

When Bassom was found to have no ticket, the conductor asked him to leave the train at Prees.

But magistrates were told as the train pulled in to Prees, Bassom spat at the conductor twice.

Bassom was identified thanks to CCTV footage on board the train.

Bassom admitted a charge of common assault at the court on September 6, and was jailed for six weeks by justices.
