Euan Mellings was left unable to get to school when thieves took the chair from an outbuilding at his home in the Grove overnight on October 3.

He was born with club feet and had an operation on his right foot two months ago.

The St Peter's Primary School pupil needs the Red Cross wheelchair to get to school and has had to rely on lifts from family members since he has been without it.

His mother Tara, 32, said it was a great relief to have the chair back.

She said: "An officer rang me on Monday evening and said that a man who lives in the Maltings nearby had read it in the paper and could see the chair on council ground under a conifer tree.

"A police officer dropped it round to our house that day. I'm very pleased and I am sure the Red Cross will be, too.

"Euan has been doing really well and he uses his walking frame around school.

"I'm hoping to give the wheelchair back to the Red Cross at the end of the week.

"I am so thankful, I hope to speak to the man who reported it and give him a bottle of wine or something."
