Warrant issued for fan after Shrewsbury v Walsall match
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Walsall fan after he failed to attend court to answer charges of being involved in part of the disorder that marred the team's recent derby match in Shrewsbury.
Duane Donovan, of 25 Little Common, Walsall, failed to attend Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday on a public order charge of using threatening words/behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
The court issued a warrant without bail for his arrest after he failed to make an appearance.
Donovan's case was one of three in court yesterday connected with the trouble that marred the clash between Shrewsbury Town and Walsall on October 14.
Fifteen people were arrested and three police officers injured, with incidents taking place in the town centre and inside the ground.
James Peter Arnold, 20, from Walsall, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with an offence in Wellington on the day of the game.
He was found guilty of smashing a window and damaging the frame of a window at the Raven Pub in Wellington.
The 20-year-old was given a conditional discharge for 18 months and ordered to pay £250 compensation for damage to the window, along with £100 in costs.
Magistrates are to decide next month on whether to impose a banning order on Arnold after he said the incident had nothing to do with the Shrewsbury and Walsall game.
Meanwhile, Town fan Richard Davies appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday to plead not guilty to a public order offence of using threatening words/behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress following an incident inside the stadium.
Davies, 46, of Belvidere Road, Shrewsbury, will now stand trial on the charge on January 21 and 22.
He was granted unconditional bail by magistrates.
Ten of the other people detained by police are currently on police bail.
