New Saints boss Mike Harris admits speeding at 91mph

A businessman and managing director of The New Saints FC has admitted driving at 91mph on a main road through Mid Wales.

Mike Harris, 49, former owner of telecommunications business Total Network Solutions, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court yesterday where he admitted driving on the A483 near Welshpool at 91.88mph.

Harris, of Middletown, near Welshpool, was driving a Nissan Qashqai at 9.50pm on January 31 between Arddleen and Welshpool when he was clocked by a police Vascar (Visual Average Speed Computer And Recorder) device, the court was told.

The speed limit on the stretch of road is 50mph.

Harris will appear back at the court on January 28 for a special reasons hearing for him to explain details of the incident.

No further details were revealed at the hearing.

Harris founded the communications company Total Network Solutions in 1991 in Oswestry, which he sold to BT in 2006.

He merged the company name with local football club Llansantffraid, but was forced to look for a new name after the BT takeover.

The club became The New Saints during the 2005-6 season. The club merged with nearby Oswestry Town in 2003, and now plays in the Shropshire town.
