Victim's eye sockets are fractured in vicious Telford robbery
A 42-year-old man has been left with fractured eye sockets after a vicious robbery in a churchyard in Telford as he returned from a night out.
The victim was walking through the grounds of All Saints Church, in Wellington, after a night out when he was approached by a man demanding money, police said today.
The man kicked the victim several times while he was on the floor until he finally handed over his mobile phone and bank card.
A West Mercia police spokesperson said: "This was a vicious robbery which left the victim requiring hospital treatment for fractured eye sockets and a broken nose.
"Unfortunately, because it was dark at the time and there is no lighting in the churchyard, we have no description of the offender other than he is believed to be around 5ft 11ins tall.
The spokesperson added: "A Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc mobile phone was stolen in the incident, along with a Barclays debit card.
"I would urge anyone who comes across these items or knows anything about the robbery to contact us."
The spokesperson said the incident happened at about 12.50am on Saturday.
Anyone with information about this incident should call Telford CID on 0300 333 3000, quoting 130N 031112 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
