He managed to raise the alarm and two residents chased down a group of youth in Cockshutt Road.

Police said the paper boy, who works for the Shropshire Star, was walking along Station Hill and passed the group.

He began walking faster as the group began to follow him before a male attacked him from behind, pushing him to the floor.

Stefan was kicked and punched a number of times while he was on the floor.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Having been attacked the victim did manage to get back to his feet and make his way to a nearby address and call the police.

""However, as he escaped from his attackers he realised one of them had picked up his BlackBerry Curve mobile phone.

"Two witnesses gave chase to the group of youths and managed to retrieve the mobile phone, although the SD memory card had been taken out of it.

"The group was all aged between 14 and 16 and one of the youths that attacked the victim was wearing a black Adidas top."

Contact police on 101.
