Telford shopkeeper attacked by robbers with metal bar
Masked robbers smashed a 62-year-old Telford shopkeeper over the head up to four times with a 2ft iron bar before fleeing with his takings.
Terrified Mohammed Latif said he feared for his life during the attack in Wellington.
He was hit over the head and punched in the nose leaving him with cuts and bruising.
Mr Latif, who has run the Millbank Stores for more than 30 years, was attacked after he got into his car at about 8.15pm on Sunday evening.
The two thieves made off with about £200 in takings, police said.
Detective Constable Matt Gibbons, of Telford police, said: "Mr Latif was very shaken yesterday.
"He is such an upstanding person and a pillar of the community that we want to know why this has happened.
"Someone somewhere must know something about what happened."
Mr Latif opens his store seven days a week from 9am to 8pm and says it is the first trouble he has ever known.
The two men are described as being around 5ft 6ins tall. They were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered.
The pair fled the scene along Mill Bank.
Police are now scouring CCTV footage taken at the time of the offence to try to trace the two culprits.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Telford Police on 101.
