Telford pensioner's home targeted in raid
A 'frail and vulnerable' pensioner was left shaken after a burglar broke into his Telford home while he was watching television.
The victim, who is in his 70s, got up to confront the intruder but because he is unsteady on his feet the burglar continued to search his lounge and went through several drawers before finding almost £200 in a pouch by the side of a chair.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the break-in, which happened in Purbeckdale, Dawley, at about 1.30am yesterday to call 101 or 0300 333 3000.
A spokesman for Telford police said: "It appears that an unknown man broke into the property by reaching in through the cat flap in a rear door and turning the key from the inside."
He said the victim described the man as white, in his early 20s, about 5ft 8ins and stocky. He wore a khaki jacket, woolly hat and a grey or light coloured camouflage hooded top.
