Judge Robin Onions told Ian Leslie Roberts he was 'every motorist's nightmare' and if he had the power he would have jailed the 33-year-old indefinitely.

Roberts was convicted of taking his neighbours' car and driving it dangerously around Liverpool. He filled the car up with diesel and drove off without paying.

The incidents happened in October last year. Roberts was found guilty of making off without paying, aggravated vehicle taking and driving while disqualified. He was cleared of burgling his neighbour's home.

Roberts took a Jeep from his next door neighbours' drive, went to Liverpool and drove the wrong way along a dual-carriageway.

In 2003 Roberts was jailed for five years for causing the deaths by dangerous driving of his fiancée, 17-year-old Laura Reynolds, and 26-year-old Louise Evans in Whitchurch.

He also has other driving convictions on his record.

Judge Onions told Roberts, of The Old School House, Grindley Brook, Whitchurch: "You are every driver's nightmare. If I had the power I would detain you indefinitely because I think you are a grave risk."
