Fourteen police officers focus of inquiry over Pattingham murder
Fourteen serving and former police officers are now under investigation for their part in a botched investigation into the murder of man whose body was found on the Shropshire border.
Five men were jailed for the gangland killing of drug dealer Kevin Nunes, 20, who was shot in Pattingham, near Shifnal, in 2002. The convictions were overturned last year after the release of a report detailing blunders by Staffordshire Police.
Nine serving police officers and five now retired Staffordshire officers have been served with notices advising them their conduct is subject to investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
They include Staffordshire Assistant Chief Constable Jane Sawyers and Marcus Beale, Assistant Chief Constable at West Midlands Police, as well as Northamptonshire Chief Constable Adrian Lee and his deputy Suzette Davenport – who was today named as the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire Police.
The IPCC probe centres on how Simeon Taylor, who claimed to have seen the killing, was dealt with, as well as 'disclosure issues'.
