Dawn Edwards, 29, from Whitchurch, said the man put his foot under the wheel of her Renault Scenic and tried to open the back door during the incident in Malpas, near the Shropshire border, on February 4. He was unable to get in as Mrs Edwards had locked the doors.

Police warned motorists to stay alert after reports of more than 10 incidents on the Shropshire border in the last two weeks. The robbers claim to have broken down and ask potential victims for cash or offer to sell jewellery so they can buy fuel.

Mrs Edwards said: "The man just ran out in front of me. I thought he was asking for directions at first but he put his foot under my wheel and was trying to open the back door."

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.
