The incident happened yesterday morning as the schoolgirl was walking along Berwyn Drive in Bayston Hill at about 8am.

A small black car, driven by a man described as white, with grey hair and aged between 40 and 50 years old, pulled up alongside her and the driver asked her to get in.

She ran away without responding towards Oak Meadow School and he drove off in the opposite direction.

Inspector Scott Harris, from Shrewsbury Police Station, said the youngster reported it to staff when she got to school and they called the police.

"The man did not get out of his vehicle and did not attempt to touch or grab her in any way but the incident has understandably left a young girl shaken and upset," he said.

"We are very keen to speak to this man and I would urge him to contact police as a matter of urgency on 101, along with anyone who might have seen him."
