Telford Co-op raided for second time in eight days
A convenience store has been targeted by an armed robber for the second time in eight days.
A man entered the Co-op in Dothill, Telford, and threatened staff with a screwdriver before making off with a quantity of cash.
The Roden Close store was also targeted just over a week ago when a knife-wielding robber stole £200 after threatening staff.
Police were called after the latest raid yesterday afternoon and are appealing for witnesses.
Inspector Andy James, of Telford Police, said: "Staff at the Co-op called just after 2.45pm saying a man had entered the store and threatened them with a screwdriver before making off with an unknown quantity of cash. Nobody was hurt. The man was described as wearing a hoodie, blue jeans and a green mask around his face."
People living nearby have said they are becoming concerned with the frequency of robberies and are worried about using the store.
A resident who lives opposite the Co-op, who did not want to be named, said: "It is very scary. The shop was hit by a knifepoint raid only a couple of weeks ago. They are getting braver, coming in broad daylight."
Another said: "It is very concerning and will make me think twice about going in there. My elderly parents live here too and they go to the store daily for a newspaper. Anyone could be in there when it happens."
Another resident said there had been a security guard working at the store following the previous incident, but he had stopped operating there in the last few days.
A spokesman for The Midcounties Co-operative said: "Colleagues were shaken but were otherwise unhurt. Their welfare is of prime concern to us and they have been given the appropriate support."
Witnesses are asked to call police on the 101 number, quoting reference 397-S-280313.
