Police plea to find men after Telford taxi driver robbed

Police officers today appealed for help in tracking down thieves behind the robbery of a 43-year-old taxi driver in Telford.

?He was robbed by a number of men who forced him to drive to a Lloyds TSB cashpoint in Wrekin Drive, Donnington.

The victim had been driving the men around all day, in what he thought was a genuine fare.

The trips included driving to Manchester, Newport and Wellington, before he was robbed of several hundred pounds at the cashpoint.

He was then forced to get more money from his house and the following morning, he was forced to meet them again and hand over more money.

The victim felt so threatened that the incidents were not reported to the police until May 7, two days later.

Two men aged 29 and 18 have been charged with robbery and kidnap in connection with this incident, while a 17-year-old youth who was also arrested has been released on police bail.

Detective Sergeant Ian Rutherford said: "Although two men have been charged in connection with this incident we believe there are still other offenders outstanding.

"With that being the case we would like to hear from anyone who may have information that could aid our investigation, especially anyone who believes they can suggest possible names for other individuals involved."

The police also believe this crime may be linked to the robbery of a security guard at the One Stop shop on Dawley Road in Arleston last month.

In that incident, at 8.20pm on April 2, a security guard was punched and kicked a number of times by three men who stole several thousand pounds as he delivered it to the shop. Three men have also been charged for this offence but it is believed there may still be more offenders.

Anyone with information about either of these two incidents, especially anyone who feels they can help us identify other offenders, is asked to contact police on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 326N 020413 or 720N 080513.
