Teenager faces murder charge after death of Shrewsbury man, 64
A 19-year-old man appeared in court today charged with murder and robbery following the death of Shrewsbury darts player Robert Barlow.
Jordan Aaron Lawson, of Stephenson Drive, in Shrewsbury, appeared before the town magistrates court charged with six offences, including the robbery and murder of Robert Barlow on Saturday night in Shrewsbury.
The 64-year-old victim was found with serious injuries on Reabrook Avenue just after 10.50pm and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Lawson is also charged with three separate robberies in Shrewsbury in January and one charge of intimidating a witness in relation to one of the suspected robberies.
The defendant spoke only to confirm his name, age and address and was remanded in custody to appear at Stafford Crown Court on Friday.
Today, Mr Barlow's family said he would be "greatly missed" by all who knew him.
He had been drinking in the Reabrook Sports & Social Club, in Scott Street, on the evening he died.
Paramedics found him on the street just after 10.50pm on Saturday but pronounced him dead at the scene.
Mr Barlow's family said in a statement: "We are devastated by the tragic loss of a much loved husband and father. His death has left a big hole in our lives."
"Rob was a quiet, gentleman with many eclectic interests and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. At this time we would like to ask for privacy to grieve and begin to deal with our loss."
Mr Barlow's family today released a photo of Robert.
Scores of tributes were also left on the internet as Shrewsbury people described Mr Barlow's death as tragic.
Bernie Weaver said: "So sorry Bob has been taken away from us in such tragic circumstances. Lovely man, god bless him, from all your fishing pals and friends."
Anne Lee said: "We are so very sorry here in Seabury Close, I wish to send my condolences to the family."
And Dave Minshall added: "Rest in peace Bob. Sincere condolences to all his family."
Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy, from Shrewsbury CID today issued a fresh appeal for witnesses.
He added: "Although a man has been charged with murder as a result of this investigation, I would once again like to reiterate the fact that we still remain keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information that could relate to Mr Barlow's death."
DI?Bellamy said the teenager had also been charged with three other robberies and one count of witness intimidation relating to incidents earlier in the year.
