Jay-J Pitt, 28, of Red Lake, Telford, was referred to as "greenfingers" in one text.

He was arrested after police stopped the van he was in at the foot of The Wrekin and found he had eight black bin bags full of cannabis plants in the back and £2,300 in his possession.

He was jailed for four years after admitting an offence of supplying cocaine between May and August last year and of being in the possession of cannabis.

Mr Recorder Edward Coke said: "People who supply drugs are peddling death. They cause misery to their own families and those of addicts and they affect people who are robbed and burgled by the addicts."

Mr Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting, said police followed the white van Pitt was in through Telford on July 16. When the van was searched they found £2,300 and eight bin bags full of cannabis plants.

Pitt's mobile phones were seized and on one there were 498 texts that related in one form or another to growing cannabis or supplying drugs, Mr Beardwell said. In one he was referred to as "greenfingers".

Miss Sarah Cooper, for Pitt, said her client had been £22,000 in debt with a cocaine addiction after getting involved with the wrong crowd. He now had a serious relationship and a daughter.

"He is very remorseful," she said.
