OAP's new fence in Donnington is stolen just days after being fitted
An 87-year-old woman woke up to find her £500 garden fence had been stolen – just days after having it fitted.
The pensioner, who became a war widow at just 23, saved for months to replace the fence panels outside her home in Donnington. But they were stolen between 9pm on Friday, July 12 and 6.30am on Saturday, July 13.
She said "I had saved for a long time and now I will have to pay again to get the fences replaced. Our generation, including my husband, were fighting for a better future and I feel very let down. If I had enough money I would leave England."
Donnington Councillor Clive Mason said it is not the first fence theft in the area.
Mr Mason said: "I have been made aware of three or four similar thefts over the last 12 months.
"I feel very sorry for those unfortunate victims. I am surprised that the fitters do not secure them better, something needs to be done to stop this happening."
Chris Ammonds, Spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Police were alerted to the theft of five wooden fence panels each 5ft, with rounded trellis on the top. The elderly victim is very distressed and anyone with information is urged to call 101 and quote incident number 81N130713."
