Handbag theft bid pair target woman in Newport

A woman suffered bruising after being pushed in the face when two teenagers tried to steal her handbag in Newport.

The woman was standing at the bus stop in Granville Road by the Christian Cottage Care centre when two youths approached her.

The pair made a grab at her handbag but the woman hit one of them. They then pushed her causing bruising to her face, before running off.

Chris Ammonds, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "This happened between 7pm and 7.30pm so it was still light."

He added: "The victim described the one youth as fat and said they were both wearing dark tracksuits. We have been looking into CCTV in the area and carrying out inquiries."
