Robert Edwards, 22, of Penderry Road, Swansea, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with four counts relating to drugs.

Mr Justin Espie, prosecuting, said Edwards was arrested after men were seen behaving suspiciously in the toilets at Latham Park, home of Newtown FC.

Edwards is charged with possessing 21.98g of cocaine; supplying an unknown quantity of cocaine; supplying an unknown quantity of trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine and benzylpiperazine, both class C drugs; and possession with intent to supply 6.39g of trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine and benzylpiperazine.

Edwards did not enter any pleas to the charges and the case was committed to Mold Crown Court where he will appear on August 30 for a preliminary hearing.

Trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine, also known as TFMPP, used to be sold as a legal alternative to ecstasy but is now a Class C drug in its own right.

Benzylpiperazine, also known as BZP, is a drug with euphoriant and stimulant properties which has a similar affect on the body as amphetamines.
