Members of the public reported the black Volkswagen, which has been left badly damaged, close to shops on the Meole Brace Retail Park, on Hereford Road, and police are investigating.

The car was originally found abandoned over the bank holiday weekend. Its wheels had been removed and it was left balancing on house bricks.

But now vandals have smashed the body and windows of the car, leaving shattered glass and plastic littering the privately-owned car park.

The vehicles' headlights, badges, petrol cap and other valuables have been removed.

One shopper, who asked not to be named, said: "I went up to Meole Brace Retail Park and in the back car park close to Halfords there was a burnt out vehicle which looked as if it had been in quite a traumatic crash.

"It had been stripped of its parts and looked like an absolutely mangled wreck and had been left in one of the parking spaces."

The retail park is owned by private company LaSalle Investment Management.
