Shropshire service station raider spared prison sentence
A 37-year-old man who admitted stealing hundreds of pounds from a Shropshire service station and then returning the next day to ask for more before shattering a shop window, has been spared an immediate prison sentence.
Dale Byrne, of Faulkland Crescent, Wolverhampton, was handed a community order after stealing £300 from Adastra Services in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, on December 13, when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday for sentencing.
The court heard he had been captured on CCTV walking into the garage and through the staff room door before making off with the cash and two bottles of Jack Daniels.
Byrne also admitted driving while disqualified and dangerous driving. The community order contains a two-year supervision requirement, a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and a two-year residency requirement.
Byrne was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Judge Peter Barrie said they were serious offences but recognised Byrne had psychological issues.
