Rings, necklaces and bracelets – predominantly owned by Asian families and with "significant" sentimental value having been passed down through generations – were taken in the break-ins, police revealed today.

Homes in Harvey Crescent, Arleston; Pembridge Close, in Muxton and Ayr Close, in Leegomery, were targeted at the end of May and the beginning of June.

Constable Simon Dunn, of West Mercia Police, said the homes were all broken into during the afternoon while the owners were out.

He said officers were urging people to stay vigilant following the spate of burglaries.

"West Mercia Police officers are currently investigating several recent burglary offences whereby large quantities of family gold jewellery, predominantly owned by Asian families, have been stolen in the Telford area," he said.

"There have been three house burglaries in Arleston, Leegomery and Donnington between May 28 and June 5.

"Large amounts of family gold jewellery has been stolen. Most of the items had been passed down through generations of family and are of significant sentimental value.

"There are a number of enquiries that are still going on but we would urge anyone with information, or who may have been offered jewellery for sale, to contact us."

Any witnesses or members of the public with information are urged to call police on the non-emergency 101 number. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org
