Police have appealed for the public's help after the house in was burgled during the middle of the day.

The attack happened at a home in the Forton Road area of the town.

Burglars forced their way into the property by smashing a glass panel in a rear door while the householder was running an errand and collecting one of her children from school sometime between 11.00am and 12.15pm yesterday.

Officers say that the full extent of what has been stolen is not known but a quantity of gold jewellery and cash has already been found to be missing from the home.

Constable Claire Walker-Shale from Malinsgate police station in Telford described the offenders as "despicable".

She said: "The lady who lives at the house had only popped out for a short period and during this time whoever broke in has made a complete mess pulling clothes and items out of just about every drawer and cupboard they could find"

"The family are understandably extremely upset about what has happened to them and their home and I would appeal to anyone who may have any information, no matter how small, about this crime to call the police."
