Shrewsbury murder: Police in videos appeal after stabbed boy, 16, dies

Police investigating the murder of a 16-year-old boy in Shrewsbury appealed today for anyone with video footage that could help them to come forward.

Officers investigating the murder of the teenager, who was stabbed in Meole Brace on Monday evening. are appealing to anyone who may have footage taken that evening on dashboard cameras.

The teenager died yesterday after failing to recover from the attack. He underwent surgery at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but could not be saved.

Three people questioned about the stabbing have been released on bail.

Police today made a fresh appeal for information about the murder, in Meole Brace.

Officers were called to Wayford Close at around 9.45pm on Monday. The boy had been stabbed once in the chest. He died at 6.30am yesterday. Three to four men, one wearing a green T-shirt, were seen running from the scene.

The attack is believed to be targeted and an isolated incident. Those arrested and bailed are from the Meole Brace area.

The coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has been informed of the death.

Residents today spoke of their shock. A woman in her 50s, who lives in Wayford Close, said: "We have vulnerable people living here, elderly people and children. This is a nice area, people have lived here their whole lives and have brought up their kids here.

"I am feeling frightened. You are naturally scared when you live on a council estate – I have been broken into three times."

A pensioner, from Ryton Close, said: "There is a lot of activity going on at the moment.

"I have lived here for nearly 50 years, my parents lived here and it is really getting worse."

West Mercia crime commissioner John Campion said resources were being made available for the investigation, adding his thoughts were with the victim's family.

He said: "Luckily incidents like this are rare in our communities. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family at this time."

"Having discussed this with the Chief Constable I am reassured that the force has the right resources in place to investigate the incident and I have every confidence in the officers involved. Whilst this would appear to be a targeted, isolated incident, I am pleased the force has increased police patrols and visibility nearby to reassure the local community."
