Seven days on from the murder which shocked the local community, extra police officers were on duty in Meole Brace and surrounding areas to try and find any further information and potential witnesses to the crime.

It comes as the victim was named by police as teenager Michael Warham from Liverpool.

Michael was found with a single stab wound in Wayford Close on August 1 and was taken to hospital where he died on Thursday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Moxley today promised everything possible is being done to catch those involved.

He said: "A thorough murder investigation into Michael's death is ongoing and our priority is to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

"We are asking the local community to think back to the evening of August 1, particularly between 9pm and 10pm, and ask them to contact police if they saw or heard anything suspicious."

He added that police are also searching for three young men who were wearing hooded jumpers and tracksuit bottoms near the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital at about 11pm on Monday.

The three young men are thought to be white and in their late teens to their early 20s.

West Mercia Police deployed a mobile police station in the area over the weekend following successful appearances in the estate last week and officers said they have received a number of new leads.

It was again in Meole Brace yesterday in a bid to uncover what led to the fatal stabbing and who committed it.

Inspector Ed Hancox, from West Mercia Police, said: "We have had a really good response at the mobile police station, with lots of residents popping in to discuss any concerns they may have.

"Last night we had extra officers in the area as it was seven days after the incident occurred.

"They were carrying out 'anniversary checks' in Meole Brace and surrounding areas to identify any further potential witnesses."

The teenager was found on Monday night last week, collapsed and fighting for his life in Wayford Close.

He was rushed to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery but he could not be saved. He died at 6.30am on Thursday and a murder investigation was launched.

It led to a hive of police activity in the Meole Brace area over the following days, including extra patrols, a road closure in Stapleton Road and forensic teams.

His family today described Michael as a "much-loved, remarkable young boy with a big heart and loving nature".

In a statement, his family added: "We would also like to thank the medical staff at the hospital and all those who have helped the police at this time." Following the murder, forensic teams scoured the area and officers conducted door-to-door inquiries, with officers also appealing for footage from dash cams.

Residents spoke of their shock after the incident, with many saying their peace had been "shattered".

Floral tributes were placed on Wayford Close along with cards and well wishes to his family.

Police are still searching for information about three to four men, one of whom was wearing a green T-shirt, who had been seen running from the scene. The attack is believed to have been targeted and senior police officers have described it as "an isolated incident".

Three people from the Meole Brace area were arrested within hours of the stabbing during late-night raids, but were later released on police bail.

The coroner for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin has been informed of the death.

Detectives have urged anyone who has any information on the incident to call police on 101 quoting incident reference 775s of August 1.
