Mel Robert Simpkins, 20, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to charges relating to making indecent images of children, including possession of a prohibited image, all in the most serious categories of offences. The offences date from between July 2014 and August 2016.

Simpkins, of Wrockwardine Road, Wellington, also pleaded guilty to one count of breaching a Sexual Harm Prohibition Order made at the court on July 11, 2014 for previous offences.

He pleaded guilty to one count of carrying out an act of outraging public decency relating to his indecent behaviour in a shop in Telford on September 14 this year.

Mr Roger Bleazard, prosecuting, said there was a risk of an escalation in the defendant's offending behaviour, adding: "Most worrying is the range of category of images which have been downloaded. These fall into categories A to C which are the highest in terms of seriousness."

The case was transferred to Shrewsbury Crown Court for sentencing on a date to be fixed. An immediate sexual harm prohibition order was also granted.

Simpkins, who is already on the Sex Offenders' Register due to a previous conviction, was granted conditional bail.
