Three boys arrested over Telford bin fires
Three teenagers have been arrested after a spate of bin fires in Telford.
West Mercia Police received several reports of bins being set alight in High Street, New Hall Road, King's Haye Road and Springhill in Wellington.
The incidents are believed to be arson but no one was injured.
The fires started with a wheelie bin and a large skip fire at about 8.30pm in High Street.
LTwo incidents followed some two hours later there were another bin fires in High Street and two large industrial bins at New Hall Road.
Fire crews were then called out to King's Haye Road to deal with two bins on fire at about 11pm and then to another bin on fire in the Springhill area at about 11.50pm.
Holly Claydon-Bevan, from West Mercia Police, said: "Two 13-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of arson and are currently in police custody."
Derek Taylor, fire crime officer with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said the incidents could have had a damaging knock-on effect for other people.
He said: "While they are there dealing with that they cannot deal with another incident.
"There would only be one crew in Wellington available dealing with that so if there was another call they would have to call Telford Central or the retained crew from Wellington.
"There was also the potential that large wheelie bins, if they are close to properties, the properties could also go up."
