Telford mother punched pub landlady's husband in row over drinks
A Telford mother-of-one smashed a pub window and punched the landlady's husband while on a suspended sentence, a court has heard.
Colletta Thomas, 27, got into a row at The Raven pub in Wellington after friends she was with refused to pay for drinks that had been poured for them.
Thomas, of Bembridge, Brookside, had been given a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years in January 2015 after she kicked a mother-of-three in the face.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Thomas ran at the landlady's husband with a clenched fist and punched him, causing a one centimetre cut under his eye as well as bruising and swelling.
Prosecuting, Mr Phillip Beardwell said: "The landlady challenged them before they left the pub – not touching the drinks but not paying for them. The defendant approached and said she would pay for them.
"She was then told together with her friends they were banned from the pub and had to leave the area. She returned later having left her bag and phone there. The landlady said she had it behind the bar. By this stage the landlady realised more money was owed than initially thought.
"The landlady handed her her bag and the defendant paid £10 more for the drinks. She then shouted 'Where's my phone?'. It was in her bag but she couldn't find it.
"She then started becoming abusive. She picked up a half pint glass and threw it on the floor."
The court was told how Thomas accused the landlady and her husband of racism before running at the husband and punching him.
A smashing noise was then heard at the front of the pub. A pane of glass had been smashed and the defendant and one of the men she had been with were stood there.
In mitigation, Mr Peter Gilmour said Thomas had taken action herself to get her alcohol troubles sorted. He said: "I would urge you not to activate the suspended sentence because of the steps she has taken to deal with her alcohol abuse."
Recorder Martin Jackson did not activate the suspended sentence order and instead ordered Thomas to complete a total of 160 hours unpaid work for two charges of criminal damage and one of assault by beating as well as the breach of the suspended sentence order.
She was also told to pay £21 compensation for the damage, £100 to the landlady's husband and a £60 victim surcharge.
