Roberto Roa Vallejo told a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday that the pair had "normal'"sex and the alleged victim had never said no and had consented.

He denies two allegations of rape and sexual assault said to have happened almost three years ago. The jury has heard the defendant and the woman met on March 29, 2014, at a nightclub in Shrewsbury.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she had lost touch with friends on the night out and was offered the opportunity to stay at the defendant's one bedroom flat. They were given a lift back to Telford by a friend of Vallejo and she believed she would sleep on his sofa.

On arrival she found that someone else was asleep on the sofa and ended up having to share the defendant's bed when she claimed she was raped.

Vallejo, a native Spaniard, of Claremont Mews in Wellington, gave evidence through an interpreter and said it was the woman who had asked him if she could stay at his flat. He said she had been drunk

and when he got into the bed he said there was "immediate hugging and kissing" and she never suggested they shouldn't have sex.

Vallejo denied preventing the woman from getting out of the bed by trapping her against the wall.

The trial continues.
