Two Shropshire teenagers found guilty of knife-point robbery
Two Shropshire teenagers who stole a mobile phone from a college student after bursting into a house have both been found guilty of robbery.
Jordan Warren, 18, had threatened Dominic Evans with a knife, and his 17-year-old accomplice had been searching for missing drugs. Both were found guilty of robbing Mr Evans in March last year following a five-day trial.
The 17-year-old accomplice, from Wem, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also found guilty of assaulting Mr Evans and offences of intimidating a witness. A third defendant, also aged 17 and from Shrewsbury, was cleared of robbery. All three youths had denied the charges.
Recorder Martin Butterworth adjourned sentence until March 1 for reports.
Warren, of Fitzalan Road in Harlescott Grange, Shrewsbury, and the Wem teenager were both allowed bail. The jury, at Stafford Crown Court, heard Mr Evans had been asleep with his girlfriend at her parents' address in York Road, Shrewsbury, on March 17 when the robbers burst in.
He was told he would be stabbed as the defendants searched the room before stealing his phone. The jury heard the attack was related to a claim the victim had taken cannabis belonging to one of the attackers.
The previous day Mr Evans had been assaulted outside his Wem home by the 17-year-old, who had grabbed Mr Evans by the collar and thrown him to the ground and kicked him two or three times while he was on the floor, the jury heard.
The following day the defendants entered Mr Evans' girlfriend's home in Shrewsbury, through an open rear patio door and were asking about the cannabis.
Giving evidence Mr Evans said he could not get out of bed and said Warren had punched him to the head and threatened him with a kraft knife.
"He said he was going to kill me and he would stab me. I was scared," he told the jury.
