Drug addict caught in BMW with heroin and cocaine
A 31-year-old drug addict was found in possession of hundreds of pounds worth of heroin and crack cocaine in Telford when a car was stopped by police.
Hayley Brown had been acting as courier and was holding the drugs for 'safe keeping' for others involved in street dealing.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday, Brown was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
Judge Jim Tindal said only Brown's efforts to deal with her drug addiction had kept her from going straight to jail. Brown was also made subject of a drug treatment programme and must complete 100 hours' unpaid work and pay £100 costs.
Brown, unemployed, of Stoke Newington, London, had pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
The court heard the defendant had been a front seat passenger in a BMW stopped in Legs Lane, Madeley, in March last year when police recovered more than £500 worth of drugs. Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said there were two other people in the vehicle and it had been Brown who initially handed over the drugs.
