West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner reflects on first year in office
West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has reaffirmed his commitment to building a safer West Mercia and says he will continue to build on the progress made in his first 12 months in office.
A year on from the PCC elections, the commissioner says he has has taken some significant steps towards reforming the police force, delivering better services for victims of crime, and delivering communities which are safe and feel safe. He has delivered on key election promises such as a freeze in council tax, a new Victims Charter, increasing police visibility, improving PCC transparency and engaging with communities.
John Campion said “I have worked hard to repay the faith our communities put in me a year ago and will continue to do so. I have been pleased with some of the progress made in the last 12 months, but it’s clear a lot of important work and challenges still lie ahead.”
“I always said reforming the police force was a massive job and that is certainly the case. Whilst things like body worn video and mobile technology are moving forward there is still work to do to make the service as effective and efficient as it can be, giving our officers the tools to do their difficult jobs to the best of their abilities and delivering the best service to our communities”.
“We have set a strong foundation. Now I will continue to keep a close grip on finances, develop further partnership collaboration and empower our communities to deliver my vision for a safer West Mercia”.
