Paul Dipper, 54, was sentenced for a series of offences carried out over a four-year period.

Dipper, of Main Road, Ketley, had previously been found guilty of three charges of indecency with a child.

The offences are said to have happened between June 21, 1999, and April 1, 2003.

Dipper was also found guilty of indecently assaulting a child between June 21, 2002, and April 1, 2003.

He now faces at least six years behind bars and being on the sex offenders register.

Sentencing Dipper at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Judge Peter Barrie condemned Dipper’s actions. He said the offences were “some of the most serious sexual offences” and that a substantial jail sentence was the only appropriate punishment.

The judge said the offences had caused the victim “profound hurt and distress”, as well as psychological harm. He said Dipper will serve half of his sentence behind bars. He may then be released on licence for the remainder of his sentence.

The sentencing hearing was delayed for three years because of Dipper battling heart problem and depression.
