Devastated staff at Ysgol Cedewain in Newtown were horrified when they arrived at the school earlier this week to find the obscene graffiti daubed across the site.

It comes only weeks after the school called for youths to stay away, following an incident over the Easter holidays that saw hundreds of pounds worth of damage caused to roof tiles and a bin.

According to police, it is believed this latest damage was caused sometime between 3pm and 7pm on May 7.

The school caters for pupils aged between three to 19 years old, who experience a wide range of educational, physical and sensory difficulties.

Neil Jones, Ysgol Cedewain’s business manager, said: "Once again, we've had intruders on site over the weekend. This time obscene graffiti was found in several places in the top school park area.

"We have captured several images on CCTV and have passed these to Dyfed-Powys Police for follow up."

In a post on Facebook the school have also asked members of the public to share what's happened at the school on Facebook in a bid to raise awareness of the problem.

Mr Jones added: "Our school can ill afford to repair needless damage or spare hours of time to trawl through CCTV footage every day."

Sian George, a spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "Police received a report of criminal damage at Ysgol Cedewain, in Newtown, that occurred some time over the weekend of May 6-7.

"The children's playground was vandalised with offensive graffiti."

She added: "The damage is likely to have been caused between 3pm and 7pm on Sunday, May 7, as there are believed to have been unauthorised people on the site between these times."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
